National Youth Gathering July 2012
We have 6 students and 3 adults signed up for the Youth Gathering in New
Orleans: Stephanie Allen, Alyssa Conger, Mary Johnson, Annika Kirk, Ryan
Joyce and Erik Ruehl plus Mollie Stavenger, and Heidi Cryer. They are
ready to begin monthly meetings – meeting on the 2Sunday of each month
from 6 to 7 pm as they study and prepare for their trip. They will be
leaving on Sunday, July 15 because they will spend 3 days prior to the
trip doing service work for Camp Restore, a Lutheran service organization
that is working on homes, schools and churches in New Orleans that
still need rebuilding after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. These youth have
made a big commitment and we appreciate the support of this
congregation. Remember our exciting Fundraiser – a Mardi Gras party on
Friday February 17. If we get the hoped for participation, it will be the
only fundraiser we have to do. Plus, it will be a teaching
experience as well as we all learn that Mardi Gras is really a way to
prepare for Lent! Buy your tickets now – you won’t want to miss this
party!!
Souper
Bowl Sunday February 5th
Once again, for the 6th
or 7th
year, our high school students will be collecting for Souper Bowl
Sunday – a way to remember that although lots of money is spent on
the Super Bowl, there are still many who are hungry in our
country. The money collected goes to Second Harvest here in the
Tri-Cities. We then report our collection to the National Souper
Bowl Sunday organization and all the totals are tallied. Last year
$9.5 million was given for Hunger-Relief agencies across the country.
Our own total was nearly $1400. We hope to at least match it this
year! Just throw your donation in the soup pot after service on
Sunday, February 5
Thanks for your support.
